Thrifting (v.) The act of going to a thrift store.

I’m going to be a cat for Halloween... I know shocker. I tried to pull off Andrew Vanwyngarden. I really did. But there were just things that weren’t going to work out. For example, he is not wearing a shirt... sooo i mean I could go shirtless... but I feel like some problems might arise. #publicnudity I’m really trying not to get arrested. But I promise I did put some effort in trying to figure out how to pull of the Andy Vanwynie look. I went #thrifting today in hope I would find suitable components for an MGMTesque costume, but I was left uninspired by the clothing options. However, the trip itself was far from a waste of time.
Nestled in a building I really thought was abandoned is the #sketchiest thrift store ever. But really #classicTampa. We walked in and... it was a pretty standard sketchy thrift store. It had that token old and musty thrift store smell #yum. The clothing selection was pretty standard, racks upon racks of dirty old t shirts. The lack of bizarre oil paintings was pretty disappointing. After perusing the grungy nicknacks and deciding not to take the unicorn ring holder #magical, I checked out the records. My first great find was Frank Sinatra’s That’s Life. Frank is another obsession. He can fly me to the moon any time he’d like #sosexy. My second stellar find was the JC Penny’s sponsored The Brightest Stars of Christmas. I know JC Penny? how can this record be of good quality. oh trust me my friend, I was surprised too.  The record is full of great Christmas classics. Elvis Presley’s Here Come Santa Clause, Jingle Bells by Julie Andrews, Sleigh Bells by the Boston Pops #stopit. The list goes on and on. The best thing about my new records is they were 54 cents total! #bargain. Not too shabby Tampa, not too shabby.

What to be for Halloween...

Me as a
cat last year
#classic.
Okay so October decided to fly by, but seriously... I think it skipped a week... This means I definitely don’t have a solid Halloween costume yet... which is a problem, because in college Halloween goes on for 3 days... Naturally, I decided I was going to be a cat for all three days #catlover. There are so many cat options. A regular cat, a cool cat, a jazz cat, cat woman, cat burglar, a striped cat, a spotted cat, keyboard kitty... I mean do I need to keep going? Plus a cat costume follows the unwritten rule for Halloween costumes. That rule being: Costumes must look legitimate, while being made from the least amount of material possible aka #slutty. It’s really easy to pull that off with the cat look. Its a total #DIY costume. Which I’m so down for seeing as I’m a #brokecollegestudent. All it requires is a leotard (check, I was a ballet dancer), cat ears (check, duh #catobsessed), fishnets (check, dance costume), heels (check, I’m a girl) and eye liner to draw on the whiskers (check, um again I’m a girl). Then the variations on the costume can easily created by adding accessories, for example to pull of the #jazzcat look all I would need to do is throw on a bow tie and some sunglasses. Done.
Ideally I would remake his
 look from this cover #doable
I’m totally fine with cat variations as a costumes, I mean it’s the only #sociallyacceptable time I can be a cat in public... of course I’m going to go for it. The only real problem I have now is... my friends won’t allow me to be a cat all three days....

Don’t worry though. I’m obsessed with things other than cats... such as Andrew Vanwyngarden, lead singer of MGMT. In my mind being him was the next logical option. But again, I was shot down by my friends who said no one would know who I was... even with a name tag.... which is totally true #fuckUT. As of now I think I’m going to go for it anyway, or at least be a hippy #inspiredbyAndy. I’m going thrifting later today to try to create this look. Wish me luck. I’ll let ya know how it goes.

Spotted: Channing Tatum (sorta... kinda....)

After reading 85 pages of my crim text book today, yeah thats right 85 pages. (You’re impressed. Don’t lie.) I decided to go on a run. Not eating is way harder than anorexic people make it look. Trust me. I’ve tried/try all the time #whodoesnt. Anyways, I was running my normal route when I noticed like obnoxiously bright lights, a huge camera crew, classic black directors chairs, and a ton of stressed out people. Woah #wtf. This is not California or New York City. It’s not even Philadelphia (no offense <3 you Philly (wish i had a cheese stake right meow (#fucknoteating))) So, as you can imagine, I was rather confused by the commotion. As I jogged by I tried to catch a glimpse of what was happening but.... I run pretty fast so I didn’t have much time to look. HAH #NOT. It was hard to see what was actually going on with the 18-wheeler prop truck chillin out front of the house and I didn’t want to gawk so I continued.
Aprox. 30 minutes I was headed back up the same road, my jog had turned into a slow walk/limp due to some major leg muscle cramping and, secretly, so I could figure out what was being filmed. The set up was still there, although it looked like they were shutting down, possibly due to a run-in with the Tampa police. (I might have just made that up... the police were present though.) In my head I decided that they were probably filming a low-budget film, possibly a commercial or a educational film on the downfalls and dangers of #Floridaliving (“Florida: A sunny Place for Shady People” starring Debbie Drugabuser and Pete Panhandler). I continued my run home.
A friend’s mupload. Yup that’s him.
In his #underwear.
At a park. In the sprinklers.
When my roommate returned from class, I told her about the crazy film set up happening. We agreed it was odd but that was the depth of our discussion. THEN around 9:00 everyone’s Facebook statuses, tweets, and mobile uploads pointed to a confirmed Channing Tatum sighting on campus #sheermadness. I was able to conclude that he was filming a movie in Tampa (and dancing in his underpants at the park directly across from the school....? #notkidding) I did a quick google search of “Channing Tatum filming movie in Tampa” and discovered he is in fact filming a movie about a male stripper coming of age... in Tampa. Its called Magic Mike. I watched it being filmed and didn’t even notice.... #awkward. Also to be honest... I don’t know who Channing Tatum is... well I mean I do now... #tampaliving

If there’s one thing I know for sure....

it’s that I actually love Buddy Holly. His glasses #originalhipster, his swag, his voice ughh #love.  The effect of his death has been hitting me hard core this weekend. It may seem really random, but I feel it can all be routed back to.... hmmm let me think..... Lykke Li’s cover of Unchained Melody, which Pitchfork posted a story about last week.
I totally realized my love for Unchained Melody and like every song I fall in love with, I had to play it repeatedly on a loop. Naturally this led me to star the original version, performed by the 1960’s cuties The Righteous Brothers, on Spotify, which then landed Unchained Melody on my coveted playlist Jazzcatz (a big honor for sure). The Righteous Brother’s token #oldtimey sound reminded me that I had been meaning to star (if you don’t know what this means... get your ass on Spotify, but really) Rave on Buddy Holly, a collection of Buddy Holly’s hits performed by some of my favorite current artists (examples including: My Morning Jacket, She & Him, The Black Keys, Modest Mouse, ect.).
Look at that swagger.
(p.s. not my picture)

So there begins my love obsession with Buddy Holly. He was google imaged, set as desktop background, and in general, talked about to #excess. Then as if a sign from the universe, the movie, La Bamba was on tv. Oh wow. But actually. such a good movie.... even though Buddy Holly is only portrayed for like a minute at the end. I wanted to cry. Poor Ritchie Valens #roughlife.
It was definitely the day music died. If you just sit and think about it.... there are so many songs, tunes, melodies, riffs, lyrics that weren’t ever and will never be created because of that plane crash. #deepthoughts. They didn’t even make it to the sixties... so upsetting. If there’s one thing i know for sure it’s that the world is missing out.
"Death is very often referred to as a good career move” - Buddy Holly

This is awkward.... Let's begin.

Well... This is awkward... But so is most of my life so I figured I might as well go with it.
I'm bored and can't sleep and seeing as though I doubt anyone (when I say anyone I mean anyone I know personally) will ever read/find this it could be fun...

It's a classic night here... I can't sleep and I've already watched two episodes of Mad Men on Netflix. That's a lot of Mad Men in one night... I mean Don Draper can get boring/annoying with his #mylifesux #theworldhatesme attitude (even though he is crazy sexy). Also I totally went over my personally set, but never followed, allotted Facebook time. I don't want people to think I have no life. Got to keep the stalking time to a minimum.
Twitter wasn't doing anything for me tonight, since I continually checked it throughout the day. Nothing new there. So, I decided to switch to a blog. I need a change. Something new. Actually I just really need a cat. But I know that's not happening. My roommate hates cats, although I feel she hasn't given them a fair chance. No one hates a true jazz cat.

Well this is awkward... I can't go an hour with out bringing up catz. I don't even know blogger and it already knows i have a #catobsession. This is a first date gone wrong. But I'm okay with it. Tonight I found myself thinking that every song could be ehh probably 10 times better if it mentioned a cat. Like, okay, MGMT's new song/cover of Bauhaus All We Wanted Was Everything ---> All We Wanted Was Catz. Wow. Bam just like that. Okay. Not feeling it?  Foster the People's hit Pumped up Kicks ----> Pumped up Cats. "All the other kids with the pumped up catz you better run better run..." Purrfect example. or White Christmas by (insert favorite aritsts version here) to "I'm dreaming of a white cat. Just like the ones I used to know" A Christmas classic turned into an all year anthem to white cats with just one change of a word.

I think you get the point slash I'm secretly getting tired (finally). Well this is a beginning to something I'm sure I will regret.... Probably in a couple hours... oh well. #goodnight
